Yukon Guides

Yukon Council recently approved the expantion of our Adult Travel Assistance Policy. $1000 will be budgeted annually to assist adult members to attend training, conferences or events. This year council would like to support members to attend the Bees Knees provincial conference. If you would like to apply for travel assistance please write a letter stating the benifit to you and Yukon Guiding in attending the conference. E-mail or drop off the letter to the Guide Office by 4:30 on March 20, 2009.

We have been doing a great job selling mint cookies this fall. So far we have sold 170 of 200 cases. That means there are still 30 cases to go. Talk to Kerri in the Guide Office if you are able to take a case or two out on consignment or if your unit is able to sell cookies at Canadian Tire on Dec. 14th.

Hot off the press!

Our classic chocolate and vanilla cookies which we sell in the spring will now have 90% less trans fat. These cookies will be available in the spring, 2009. Although these cookies will have less trans fat they will still have the same great taste we all expect.

Selling Girl Guide cookies is a major fundraiser for our organization and the profits made allow us to run programs for the girls, support units and operate the guide office. Girl Guides of Canada – National office has started a new cookie selling program for the classic cookie campaign held each April. Information on the program will be sent to all members (girls and adults) during November.

The new selling program is incentive based. Girls will be asked to pre-order cookies during December and January to friends and families for sale and delivery in April. Based on the number of cookies each girl pre-orders they will be eligible for an incentive prize. These prizes and the program will be entirely managed by the National Office.

Yukon Council has previously been very successful selling cookies in a door to door cookies blitz in early April. We will still be organizing the door to door campaign and hope that all units and all members will continue to support this initiative. Unfortunately the cookies sold during the door to door campaign will not be able to be used towards an individuals selling tally in the incentive program. Only pre-ordered cookies will be included in the tally.

We expect a number of questions will come up from parents when they receive this information on the initiaitve. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have questions, comments or concerns. Also feel free to direct parents to the Guide Office to answer specific questions.

Cookies selling has begun!

Cookies will be on sale from October 15 to December 15. Units are encouraged to sign up for at least one session of mall sales. Dates available are Nov. 22,23,29,30 Dec. 6,7,14 at Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart.

We are also encouraging member and parents to sell cookies on consignment. If you are interested in selling cookies to friends and family, stop by the guide shop and pick up a case or 2.
