Cell Tower at Sprucewind

November 19, 2008 at 4:20 pm | In General, Sprucewind Camp | Leave a Comment

This fall Northwestel approached us about installing a cell tower on the Sprucewind property. After discussions with Northwestel, and some of our members council decided to proceed with the arrangement. The benefits for us is that cell reception at Sprucewind with be much better and we will be well compensated for leasing this land to Northwestel.

The town will be located in the far North-North East corner of the property beside the pre-existing trail, which is as far away as possible from the high use areas and using the pre-existing trail means less trees to take down. The tower with have anti-climb structures as well as be fenced off for safety. Also radiation levels are undetectable 10 meters from the top of the tower so will not be a concern. Finally it will be rare, but possible that emergency servicing would be required on the tower on a weekend when we were holding a camp. In this eventuality the service staff would alert the guiders in charge of their presence on the property as well as their departure.

The tower is currently being constructed and should be completed by the end of November.
